Managing Translations in Channels

When managing product data in multiple languages, proper translation is key. Xyxle offers channel-specific tools to support and export multilingual content.

Key Features or Concepts

Translatable Attributes

  • Translatable Flag: When creating or editing an attribute, you can mark it as translatable. This ensures the system treats it as a field that may have multiple language versions.

  • Automatic Detection on Import: If you import an Excel/CSV file containing translated attribute columns (e.g. Title_EN, Title_DE), the system automatically sets those attributes as translatable.

  • Default Language Fallback: If an attribute lacks a language suffix (_EN, _FR, etc.), the value is treated as default language content.

Channel Behavior Overview

  • CIN-FTP & Intra-Platform Channels: These channels automatically include all available translations when exporting item data.

How It Works / How to Use

1. Enable Translations for Attributes

  1. Go to the Attributes tab.

  2. When creating or editing an attribute, check the “Translatable” option.

  3. Save the changes. The system will now expect and handle multiple language versions for this field.

2. Prepare Excel/CSV Exports with Translations

A. Exporting a Single Product

  1. Go to Channel Settings > Excel/CSV Settings and select your Excel/CSV template.

  2. Format your template with:

    • {{AttributeName}} for dynamic data

    • [[Static Text]] for fixed content

  3. To export translated fields, use:

    • {{Title_EN}}, {{Description_FR}}, etc.

  4. Configure delivery:

    • FTP enabled → file is sent to the FTP location.

    • FTP disabled → file is downloadable.

  5. If you select multiple items by mistake, each will be exported as a separate Excel/CSV and bundled into a ZIP.

B. Exporting a List of Products

  1. Choose your template and apply desired structure.

  2. Use the same placeholders: {{ }} for data, [[ ]] for static values.

  3. Add language suffixes: _EN, _DE, _FR, _IT to pull specific translations.

  4. Configure FTP settings or leave it for manual download.

  5. Output: One consolidated Excel/CSV file with all products and translations.

Practical Tips or Best Practices

  • Always mark attributes as translatable if you plan to handle multilingual content.

  • Use clear language suffixes (_EN, _FR, etc.) in your Excel/CSV templates to avoid ambiguity.

  • Keep your default language clean by ensuring untranslated fields don’t have a suffix.

  • Review templates before export to confirm that all expected placeholders are present and correctly formatted.

  • Test exports with a small number of products first, especially when setting up new templates.

Summary

Managing translations in channels—especially Excel/CSV exports—relies on proper attribute configuration and template setup. Use the “Translatable” flag to ensure multilingual support, structure your templates with language suffixes, and double-check your FTP and download settings.

Each channel type has its own behavior when it comes to translations. Excel/CSV gives you fine-grained control through template structure and suffixes, while CIN-FTP and Intra-Platform channels send all available translations automatically.
