How to Delete an Item from a Channel

Keeping your channel exports clean and accurate means occasionally removing items that are no longer needed. How you delete items depends entirely on how they were added—Static Lists give you full control, while Smart Lists require an extra step.

Updated over a week ago

Key Features or Concepts

  • Item Deletion: Only available for channels using Static Lists.

  • Marked for Deletion: Deleted items are flagged, not immediately removed.

  • Processing Event: Actual removal happens during the next export cycle.

  • Restore Option: You can undo the deletion before data is processed.

  • No Direct Delete in Smart List: You’ll need to convert to Static first.

How It Works / How to Use

1. Deleting Items in Static List

  • Go to the Items tab of a Static List channel.

  • Select one or more items via the checkbox on the left.

  • Click Delete. Items are now marked as "deletable."

2. Processing Phase

  • Items are not removed instantly—they will be fully deleted when the next export is processed.

  • This ensures consistent data sync with the receiver.

3. Restore Before Processing

  • Until the export is processed, you can restore items.

  • Select the deleted items and click Restore.

4. Deleting Items from Smart List

  • You can’t delete items directly in Smart List mode—delete and restore buttons are not visible.

To remove items:

  • Change rule type from Smart to Static.

  • Items previously included will now appear as pre-selected.

  • Deselect the ones you want to remove.

  • Save your new selection.

Practical Tips or Best Practices

  • Don’t use Smart Lists if you need frequent item-by-item control, stick with Static.

  • Deleted items can be recovered only before the next processing event.

  • After switching from Smart to Static, always review your selection before confirming.

  • Communicate with your team when changing rule types to avoid confusion in shared workflows.

Summary

To delete an item from a channel, you must use Static Lists. Items are only flagged for deletion and removed during processing. You can restore them before that happens. For Smart Lists, switch to Static first, then manually manage your selection.
